On an Explorer, the slots were normally ordered, from left to right, facing the front::
0) ethernet
1) option (e.g. DSP board (Odyssey) or color graphics processor)
2) NUPI
3) memory option
4) memory
5) SIB
6) Processor
7) Power Supply
but the boards in slots 0-2, and maybe 3, too, could be interchanged. The
local bus ran from slots 6-4, or maybe 3.
In an Explorer II, there was no local bus, so the boards could be anywhere,
except that slots 6 & 7 were of a unique size with unique cooling, so the
processor & power supply went there. You could put in 4 32MB memory
boards if you dropped the ethernet board.
